Advanced Sculpture- Studio
Instructor: Nao Matsumoto
This Course is designed so that each student will set their own goals for the semester with consultation from the instructor and possibly from the guest lecturers. Interview sessions and individualized critique sessions will be held on a regular basis.
The aim of this course is to develop a deeper understanding for your aesthetic needs and pursuits , so you can express them not only through sculpture but through writing and in spoken words.
This semester is geared for students who are working on their Thesis proposals accompanied with group show which will showcase the entire graduating class at the end of the year.
Prerequisite for this class is Intermediate Sculpture.
You will be required to produce a body of work that is cohesive in quality and concept, which will be shown in the Thesis Show. Each project will be discussed individually. Please remember that this class is more about individual explorations of your ideas and aesthetics.
Lectures: All students are expected to attend all Lectures conducted by guest speakers. All speakers are art related professionals who were selected by the Sculpture Dept. Faculty. Please use this opportunities to ask questions regarding their art or seek guidance in the Artistic field that you expect to proceed.
Presentations: A final portfolio review and a 40 min. presentation of your Thesis project is mandatory.
Studio Hours: There will be some studio hours during the semester. However, Studio time must be managed by yourself on your own free time. Studio time given in this class should be considered as a time to resolve specific technical issues with your instructor.
Final Critique: Your work in the Thesis show will be critiqued as a group including your class mates, other faculty members and guest critics.
It is strongly advised that you manage your time wisely, plan ahead and execute the work with minimum errors.
Not being able to meet deadlines will result in severe consequences such as not being able to Graduate on time.
Grading
Your grades will be rendered from the overall quality of the projects and assignments, participation in critiques and discussions, enthusiasm and tardiness.
Missing classes will result in a drastic grade deficit. Missing more than 4 classes is considered a failure.
Good Luck and enjoy!
